O'Donnell, Kitty

April 28, 2006
The late Kitty O'Donnell The sad news of the death of Kitty O'Donnell of Lisronagh brought regret to the parish. Formerly 'Kit' Hyland she was a native of Mullinahone and always remained conscious of this. To many of the younger generation, ' Aunty Kit' was associated with the Moyle Rovers club of which she was honourary president. In a tribute paid to her at her funeral Moyle Rovers praised 'Kit' for her years of service to them. She, however, remained faithful to her Mullinahone roots and only abandoned them if Moyle Rovers were providing the opposition. In recognition of this her coffin carried the Mullinahone colours and at her graveside Thomas McNamara (her nephew) sang The Mullinahone Fifteen in accordance with her wishes and in recognition of her roots. A large number of Mullinahone people attended her final obsequies at her home at Monroe and at Lisronagh church. 'Kit' was only 70 and until very recently, when she took ill, she was a familiar figure at GAA functions all over the county. We extend condolences to her family, Imelda (daughter) and sons Andrew, Richard, Michael, John and Brian and to all their families. Kitty's husband, the late Mick O'Donnell, passed away about 25 years ago. We would like to extend our condolences to Kit's two sisters in Mullinoly, Ann Hyland and Tessy McNamara, to her other sisters Eileen, Hilary, Biddy and Connie, and to her brothers, John, Jim, Dick and Ned. May the soul of Kitty O'Donnell, nee Hyland, rest in peace. She was always a lady who lived for the credit of the little village. In GAA circles we'll miss someone pleading the Moyle Rovers case with us. Courtesy of The Kilkenny People 28 April 2006
