Broderick, John

August 31, 2003
The late John Broderick John Broderick better known as Johnny was an influential member in the reorganising of the Heath GAA club in the late 1940's. A keen hurling fan, Kilkenny in particular, Johnny introduced the hurl to the Heath in the closing years of the 40s and the practice sessions at the Gagebo on the Heath were fondly remembered at his burial, Johnny getting a broken nose for his efforts to promote hurling on the Heath. His talents lay in the administrative side of the clubs affairs and he was actively involved in this side of affairs for almost six decades. He served as secretary in the early 1950s later in the decade he handled the clubs finances when they regained the SF Championship. In the 1960s he served for a period as secretary/treasurer and ended the decade as treasurer. Johnny's purchase of a new football field in early February heralded a new football season for many years. He was actively involved in fundraising for the club for almost fifty years and showed neither fear not favour when manning the gates through the years. He served as a club Trustee from 1970 until his resignation in 2002. The club had every reason to mourn the passing and be grateful for an enormous contribution to the well being of the club and other local organisations in a quite unassuming manner.
