The Late James (Jamsey) Cleary James (Jamsey) Cleary, Clonmore died in Green Hill Nursing Home, Carrick where he had been a patient for some time. James was 76. He was a member of a renowned and respected family in the parish of Mooncoin. He was son of the late Patrick and Mary Cleary, Clonmore, Mooncoin. James had not been in the best of health of some time. His passing brought sorrow to his family, relatives, neighbours and friends. In his youthful days, he picked up a nickname that stuck with him to the last. He was called "Langton" after the noted hurler Jim Langton of Kilkenny. James was a very skillful hurler. He was a member of Mooncoin GAA Club and in his day his hurling abilities were compared to those of the great Jim Langton. James did lots of agricultural work down the years with local farmers. He was also a cot fisherman, and fished every season for salmon from The Store Road, Mooncoin. James was a noted card player. He will also be remembered for his fine singing and whistling. He could be heard whistling, as he loved to ramble through the fields with his dog. He is survived by his brother Walter (Wattie) Cleary, Clonmore, and his sister Mrs Annie O'Sullivan, Green Hill Nursing home. He was brother of the late Richard, Johnny, Paddy, Tommy, Kitty Holden, Jo McElroy and Mary O'Brien. Chief mourners were his brother and sister, as well as Sean and Mary Holden and their family, Seamus, Anthony, Christopher and Anita and their extended family. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His nieces Bridget Gaynor and Alice Tooten came from the UK and the US to visit him,days before he passed away. The funeral was from Walsh's funeral parlour, Carrick, to Mooncoin parish church, where a large and representative number of mourners paid their last respects. Canon Grace received the remains, and Fr Roderick Whearty CC assisted. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr Whearty. Readings were by Joan Holden and Eamon Cleary. The gifts were carried to the altar by Leno Dunne, Kevin Dunne, Colin Holden, Sarah Holden, who carried the bread and wine as well as a piece of fishing net and James's walking stick.
