Stone, Harold

July 08, 2005
The Late Harold Stone The sudden death of Harold Stone, Kiltown has come as a great shock to his family and to the local community. One of nature's gentlemen, if Harold Stone couldn't do a good turn for you then he certainly would not do a bad one. He was a man of culture and education, and loved to read in his spare time. A great socialiser, he enjoyed the banter and craic and like nothing better than to discuss the fortunes of local and county hurling. A kind, caring and conscientious family man he was heavily involved with Erin's Own GAA Club all his life serving as chairman, secretary, registrar, PRO and committee member. One of his proudest moments was when he was a selector with the Erin's Own Intermediate County Champions in 2003. The following year he was chosen as a selector on the Kilkenny Intermediate team. In his younger days he was akeen athlete and won numerous awards on the cross country circuit. He also played soccer with Ardra Rovers and Marymount United. Most of his working days were spent in Comerama as a laboratory technician. For 12 months he was on the staff at Urlingford Library. The huge turnout at the obsequies reflected the high esteem in which the family is held in the area. Members of Erin's Own Club and Ardra Rovers formed a guard of honour at the removal. As a mark of respect all branch libraries in Kilkenny were closed on Saturday. Burial was at the parish cemetery after Requiem Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, celebrated by Msgr Michael Ryan PP, assisted by Canon Larry Dunphy PP, Urlingford, Rev Tom Sherlock, rector Castlecomer Group of Parishes. He is survived by his wife Teresa; daughters Susanne, Debbie, Paula, Linda, mother Dolie, brothers Richard, Ballyragget, Cecil; sister Ann, other relatives and a wide circle of friends.
