The late Michael Rochford
The death occurred recently of Michael Rochford, aged 81 at the Bon Soceur Nursing Home, Doradoyle, Limerick, where he had spent the last seven years. Only son of the late Jack Rochford, Threecastles, All-Ireland hurler, Michael took a great interest in the sport and frequented Nowlan Park on many occasions.
Whenever Kilkenny were playing an All-Ireland Michael was sure to be present.
He married Catherine Lovett from Limerick in 1952 and was for a time employed with Smithwicks Brewery. Later they left for Limerick and he worked for Telecom Eireann until his retirement.
Michael was a very quiet and kind man. He leaves behind his daughter Catherine, sons Patrick and John, son-in-law Gerry; daughter-in-law Anne; eight grandchildren and one great grand child; sisters Kay, Chris, Carmel and Marie. He was a great favourite with his niece and nephews, the Butlers late of Friary Street and had continued to be part of their lives when they moved to Dublin.
He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. Requiem Mass was at Our Lady Queen of Peace church on October 6. Funeral took place afterwards to Mount St, Lawrence Cemetery where he was laid to rest with his wife Catherine.
