The Late Noel Meighan The death took place in England on February 2, after a long illness,of Noel Meighan, late of 7 St Rioch's Terrace, Kilkenny. He was one of 14 children born to Henry and Agnes Meighan. In Kilkenny, he worked at the L&N Stores in High Street but like many of his generation he emigrated to England and settled in London. He worked mostly in the bar trade and among others he managed The White Hart and the City of London. Noel was one of the founder members of the Kilkenny Men's Association in London and served on the committee for many years. He was generous to a fault and put a roof over many an emigrants head until they got established. In his younger days in Kilkenny he hurled for St Mary's Hurling Club and won two under-16 medals with them. He also played soccer at underage level with Freebooters. He loved to come back to Kilkenny especially in September if Kilkenny were in the All-Ireland. On February 8, 2005, his remains were brought from Mass to the Church of Our Lady, Lisson Grove, NW8 which was attended by many of his friends from the Rose of Denmark. His remains were then brought to Ireland to Hehirs Funeral Home, Kilkenny. Following prayers and rosary recited by Fr Oliver Maher, removal was to St. Mary's Cathedral. Remains were received by Fr Kieran O'Shea. Mass was concelebrated by Fr Maher and Canon Pat Duggan. Readings were by Noel's nephews Jamie and John Meighan. Prayers of the faithful were by his sister Peggy Merritt, nieces Una Eustace, Marie Kelly and Deirdre Cullen. Interment was at St Kieran's Cemetery in his parents gave. Prayers at the graveside were by Fr Maher. He is survived by his sisters Vera Larkin, Lilly Birch, Ballinasloe, Ann Conry, Esker and Peggy Merrit, Wolverhampton; brothers Harry, London, Liam, Paddy, Danesfort and Richard, London. He was predeceased by his brothers John and Michael and his sisters Maura O'Regan, Una Brennan and Stella Kelly. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Courtesy of the Kilkenny People 4th March 2005
