Kilkenny's legend Christy Heffernan leads out his team at Croke Park

Kilkenny legend Christy Heffernan has given a big thumbs up to his native Glenmore ahead of Sunday's All-Ireland club JHC final.

Heffernan is one of the club's most famous sons having won four All-Ireland SHC titles with the Cats during a career that spanned from 1981 to 1993.

At club level, the towering full forward won four county titles and an All-Ireland club SHC title in 1991 and although he has lived in Waterford city for a number of years now, he still is Glenmore through and through.

The affable Heffernan told the Kilkenny People that he will be making his way to Croker on Sunday with a flag that has been with him since that All-Ireland club win in '91.

"The flag will be going to Croke Park," stated Heffernan. "The 1991 flag will be going definitely. The colours are the colours, doesn't matter how old they are, they are still part of Glenmore."

He added: "This is a great opportunity for the parish, the club and the players. We were in Croke Park 25 years ago. It is a long time ago, it is nice to be going back because you never lose the grá for your own place."
