Passionate GAA man passes away

The death has taken place of Tom Holden (Lickawn) after an illness bravely borne. It is not often deaths are covered in this column. However, Tom who was a coach with Piltown Camogie Club and Kilkenny Under-14 Camogie Development Squads comes at the end of a massive year for Piltown Camogie in which he played a key part and his loss to the club and indeed the community will be immense. Tom was a passionate GAA man who followed all codes from Camogie to hurling to Gaelic Football and Girls Gaelic Football. He
had the unique distinction of being a coach in two codes at the National Feile Na NGael Finals, Hurling (2007) and Camogie (2012). His Camogie CV of success over the past few years makes impressive reading with Under-14 Roinn A and B county titles, Under-16 Roinn A

County title, County and Leinster Community Games titles. Bronze at the National Finals of Community Games, County Feile Na NGael title and several Under-12 titles. Even while he battled his illness, he still coached at both club and county level and his last public appearance was fittingly at the Under-21 Roinn B Camogie County Final which his beloved club won. His standing in the community was clearly evident by the huge turnout at his funeral, many of whom were young players he had coached. It was not just a Camogie occasion; it was an occasion for all the GAA and in fact in was a community occasion. Sincere condolences go to his wife, Pamela, son Aaron, daughters, Chloe and Sophie, his father John, his sisters and all extended family.
