Leinster MHC: Wexford shock Cats
May 05, 2013
Wexford 3-7
Kilkenny 1-10
Wexford sprung a surprise at Nowlan Park yesterday when they got the better of Kilkenny in their Leinster MHC clash.
Conor McDonald put in a man of the match performance for the visitors hitting 3-4 as the Model County recorded their first win over the Cats at minor level since 1985.
Pat Hoban's Kilkenny trailed Wexford at the interval - 2-4 to 1-4. Stephen Farrell grabbed their goal before the break.
McDonald goaled 10 minutes in after great work from centre back Conor Devitt. And again from the penalty spot on 22 minutes to give Wexford a commanding 2-3 to 0-3 lead.
Kilkenny fought back with second half points from Alan Murphy and John Walsh. However, McDonald's third goal was too much for the Cats to claw back as Willie Cleary's side gained a thoroughly deserved victory.
