Molloy, Pat

The late Pat Molloy The community of Tullaroan is still coming to grips with the tragic death of Pat Molloy on Sunday night. The 69 year old died instantly when his car hit a ditch, just yards from his home at Ardabawn, outside the village of Tullaroan at 11pm. He was at the heart of every charitable and voluntary body in the village and surrounding area. His loss to Tullaroan and to the county is immeasurable, according to friend and local councillor Pat Millea. "He was a wonderful community man and an extraordinary person who was dedicated to the local people and to the GAA," he said. Mr Molloy was a former chairman of the visitor attraction built by the local people, Brod Tullaroan (The Lory Meagher Centre) and was current chairman of Tullaroan GAA club development committee. He had attended the Kilkenny versus Tipperary All-Ireland under 21 hurling final earlier on Sunday. He was a staunch Fianna Fail supporter and had been Trade Minister John McGuinness's campaign manager in the last general election. "If there was a job to be done on behalf of any organisation or for anyone in difficulty, Pat was there," Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick said of him. He was universally well liked and was a very successful businessman, setting up Kilkenny Office Equipment, which is now known as Paragon Systems and run by his son Anselm. One of the main driving forces in trying to secure the future of Tullaroan, he was a trojan worker for the GAA, he loved hurling and rarely missed a match at local or county level. He is survived by his wife Sheila; children Keith, Anselm and Ailish; grandchildren Robbie, Corey, Bill and Patrick; son-in-law Peter; daughter-in-law Mary; sisters Mrs Joan Johnston and Mrs Betty Payne; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
