Liam Bergin, Croughtabeg, who died peacefully in St Luke's hospital was laid to rest in Coolagh cemetery on last Wednesday. He is survived by his wife Margaret and children, Maggie, Ellen, Trish, Bernie, Esther, John and Willie, in-laws, grandchildren, many relatives and friends. His remains reposed at his home where prayers were led on Monday and Tuesday evenings by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. His remains were transferred to Coolagh Church on Wednesday morning after prayers, for noon mass. The chief celebrant was Rev. Nicholas Flavin accompanied by Rev. Willie Dalton, Callan, Larry O Keeffe, Clara, Larry Wallace, Muckalee, Martin Cleere, Windgap and Bernie O Shea. The symbols presented by his family reflected his commitment to farming, his love of cards, and of GAA. He was an accomplished footballer, and played not only for Coolagh, but also for Kilkenny in a Leinster final. His local involvement was recognised by his involvement in Coolagh Church. A Guard of Honour was formed by the Coolagh Water Scheme and the Coolagh Pattern Committee reflected his commitment to his locality. His strong faith and commitment to his family were strong themes during the celebration. Also in attendance were Senator John Paul Phelan and Councillor Tom Maher. May he rest in peace.
