Mooney, Paud

December 21, 2006
The late Paud Mooney The death occurred in Mill Lane nursing home, Naas, on December 15, 2006 of Paud Mooney of Dreenane, after a very long illness, borne with great courage and dignity. Widely known to everybody as 'Peach', Paud was that good humoured individual you met walking his dog, or in the local supermarket, or at a football match involving Carbury or any Kildare county team. He spent 23 years in the army attached to McDonagh barracks in the Curragh. He did three terms of United Nations duty in Lebanon. On his retire ment from the army he worked with Bord na Mona until ill health cut short that career. An avid Gaelic football supporter, he was the ultimate Kildare fan, attending games in venues as far apart as Faker's Field in Dungarvan to Celtic Park in Derry Stack Park in Tralee or McHale Park in Castlebar, if the white jersey was on the field Paud was sure to be there. For several years he was joint manager of Carbury's second team, with Martin O'Toole and Eddie Flynn, and his illness was a contributing factor to some poor performances from the said team. He is survived by his brothers Sean, Eddie, Willie, Thomas and Michael, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces, and other relatives to whom sympathy is extended. The large attendance at his funeral, and the huge guard of honour were a tribute to his popularity and work for community. Former army colleagues were on hand to act as pallbearers on his final journey to Derrinturn cemetery. Suaimhneas siorrai da anam uasal. In iothlainn De go gcastai sinn.
