The late Michael Greene The towns of Mountrath and Castletown were saddened to hear of the recent death of Michael (Mick) Greene, Ballfin Road, Mountrath, and formerly of Castledermot, Co. Kildare. Mick, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 15, 2006, at St James' Hospital in Dublin, after a short illness. Growing up in Castledermot, Mick was a great footballer and played with the "Starlight's" a certain vintage will know of the football team! He then went to England in the early 1960's where he met and married his devoted wife, Carmel. Mick worked in the UK in Sheperton Film Studios and had many entertaining stories of movie actors and actresses of the day. he also worked for Mitsui, a large Japanese company and travelled extensively throughout England with his job. After 20 years in the UK, he and his family returned to Ireland and bought a farm in Drim, Mountrath. He enjoyed his days developing his farm and rearing his animals. he was a religious man and never missed a Sunday Mass and on the inaugural opening of the new Church in Castletown some years ago, he was asked and was the first person to open the doors to the new Church on the arrival of Bishop Laurence Forristal. Mick will be renowned for his kindness and generosity of character, his undisputed sense of good humour and his brilliant singing voice, with which he sang at many weddings and functions. Mick was also a devoted family man an he will be always be remembered by his loving family, Carmel his wife and his daughters Ann Marie, Maureen and Bernie, his granddaughter Jennifer, sons-in-law, and his brothers Lar, Ger and Joe, sisters Betty, Teasy and Patricia and his relatives and his extensive circle of friends.
