Dockery, Kieran

The Late Kieran Dockery With the recent passing of Kieran Dockery after a long illness, Prosperous was shorn of another of is most talented people. To say that Kieran was a big man in the physical sense is true enough but it is equally spot on to say that "The Doc" was larger than life in the best possible meaning of the phrase. Footballer, teacher, raconteur sublime, Kieran Dockery was all of those things - and much more besides. In his heyday, Kieran wore the Rathangan and Kildare jerseys with great pride and no little skill. Indeed, it could be fairly said that as a player he was a bit like the old soldier "just fading away," in Caragh's junior ranks at an age at which most of us have long since taken to the golf course. A teacher of consummate skill, he served as vice principal at St. Farnan's and later at Maynooth PPS. Indeed it was true to say that even after his retirement Kieran's penchant for making his favourite subject, English, come alive proved of invaluable assistance to many students taking state examinations. Kieran Dockery was by any standards an extraordinary human being and his passing leaves a void, not merely in the bosom of his family but in West Kildare generally. It is of course to his wife Carmel and three sons that we convey deepest sympathy; theirs is the greatest loss of all. Solas na bhFlaitheas dá anam uasal.
