Ballykelly Club Notes

May 20, 2012
Our Senior Ladies got their first point of their league campaign on Tuesday evening when they welcomed Carbury into Ballykelly. Final score Ballykelly 3.4 Carbury 2.7. The girls are showing real improvement in their last couple of games and will be hoping to push on from this result. Well done Ladies

Our u10 girls welcomed Castledermot into Stephen O Rourke Memorial Park on Saturday morning for their first round match in their series of games. Both teams displayed an abundance of skills and no doubt the future of ladies football in Kildare Ladies GAA is assured with the talent on display here. A draw at the end was a fair reflection of the efforts of both sides.

Our senior men kick off their championship campaign on Saturday evening when they take on Ardclough. The match is fixed for Moorefield. Throw in @ 7pm. All support welcome. Best of luck to the lads!!

Our u10 boys continued their fine form in their southboard fixtures with another fantastic performance against Moorefield B on Tuesday evening. The lads are coming on in leaps and bounds and are unbeaten after 5 rounds of the competition. Well done lads and mentors

Our u14 boys began their league with a workmanlike display against Kilcullen on Wednesday evening. The lads looked comfortable in the early stages and took a 12 point lead into the break. Kilcullen came out in determined fashion in the second half and cut the lead to just 2 points with 10 minutes to go. The lads responded with 2.1 without reply to finish the game with the final score Ballykelly 5.6 Kilcullen 2.6. They travelled to Naas on Sunday morning but emerged without the points to finish the week with a win and a loss from their first week of games. Next up is a home game against Ellistown on Wednesday evening.

Congratulations to the Monasterevin Parish U12 girls team tonight on taking another county title at this age group. A late goal from Maynooth saw the game going to extra time but the girls from the parish were not to be denied and goals in extra time from Thea Kemmy and Doireann Fahey saw the girls romp home on a scoreline of Monasterevin Parish 5.8 Maynooth 1.12. Congratulations to each and every player and a very well done to Mentors John Lawler, Brendan Lacey and Nicola Walsh. Ballykelly is very well represented on this panel with 16 of the 20 players plying their trade in this team. The girls now enter the Leinster stage of the competition. Well done from everyone in Ballykelly Gfc

Our U14 Girls produced a great display on Monday evening. As Kill couldn't field a full team the game was played as a challenge with Kill fielding overage players. The girls lost by a single point but played really well. The next competition for the girls is the National Feile which will begin on the 22nd June so training will continue.

The County Board have been in touch to say that a company called healthy hearts would be interested in screening players from 14 years up. In order for this to be successful they would need a minimum of 40 players from around the county to commit. The cost would be €40.00 per player. We feel that this would be a very worthwhile exercise particularly with all the issues that have arisen over the past months. Hawkfield will bemade available for the screening. Could you please let club secretary know as soon as possible if interested in availing of this screening programme. If the interest is there County Board will be able to arrange the screening reasonably quickly. Contact John on 0872807764
