Horan, Bridie

September 20, 2011
Sadly, our village was hit with several bereavements during the summer, the most recent of which was GAA mammy and grandmother, Bridie Horan (nee Dunne) of Boleybeg and formerly Hawkfield, Newbridge.

What a lovely woman she was, no fuss, a straight talker, a real trooper and a genuine GAA fan who will be sadly missed by children John, Michael and Peter, daughters in law, grandchildren and the extended family.
Bridie was predeceased by her husband Des who worked in the haulage business and the couple also farmed in earlier years of their marriage.

Despite a terminal diagnosis, Bridie took her illness and treatment with the same practical attitude that has seen her through her 79 years and took it all in her stride - without giving up the fags! She was involved with the ICA for years, was a devout church-goer and a major GAA fan.
What with her three sons and now, her grandchildren heavily involved with the local GAA club, Bridie herself was a talented camogie player in her youth, and played with Sarsfield and Kildare.

Whatever life threw at Bridie, she had the ability to see the best side out, enjoy a laugh and didn't tolerate 'whinging'.!
Bridie spent her last week in St Brigid's Hospice before returning to Boleybeg briefly and then making her way to join Des at Gormanstown Cemetary.
The neighbours in the Boleybeg and Cannycourt area and in particular Ann McLoughlin, will all miss Bridie - a big heart, she will be greatly missed by family and friends.
May she rest in peace and may Heaven have cigarettes readily available.
