Milltown ladies secured their first ever league title as a senior team when they overcame Nurney/ Kildangan in Div 5B Snr league final last Friday evening in Ellistown in what was a very sporting game. Milltown's Nicola Sweeney opened the scoring with a point, Sarah extended the lead when her free kick beat Gina Doyle in the goals. Nurney/ Kildangan responded with a goal from Helen Sexton, followed by a point from Claire Reilly to level the sides. Sarah again pointed from a free, Ciara Merrins and Orla Kelly added two more points putting Nurney/Kildangan a head, however a strong running Katie Shannon levelled the game going into half time.

Despite playing up hill in the second half Milltown started the stronger moving the ball quickly, Laura Hanlon's pass to Nicola Sweeney who in turn linked up with Aoife Murphy who made no mistake in putting it over the bar. Lorna Merrins drew back a point for her team, only to be answered by a goal from Hayley Mulpeter from a well-placed pass from Sarah Kavanagh, Milltown dominated play for the next 15 minutes with some good link up play from Kellie Fagan, Laura Hanlon, Hannah Heffernan and Nicola Sweeney, Hayley Mulpeter pointed again, Elisha Brennan won the ball on the half back line and going forward she carried the ball up the field to add another point for Milltown, Helen Tackaberry pulled back a point for her side, but the strong defending of Louise O Dorerthy, Irene Heavey, Caroline Murphy and Stacey Sweeney held off strong challenges from Karen Lawless, Ciara Merrins and Orla Kelly. Milltown's Katie Shannon found the net twice more supported by her working, the final score of the game came with a goal from Ciara Merrins in injury time just before referee Liam Herbert blew the final whistle, giving a final score of Milltown 4-7 Nurney/ Kildangan 2-5.
