A tough day at the office for O'Connor

A defeat to Clare was certainly not on Kildare manager Jack O’Connor’s radar before the campaign started.

The Lilywhites travelled to Ennis last Sunday as strong favourites, but they were undone by a spirited home display that saw the Banner gain an unexpected win.

O’Connor admitted to the Leinster Leader that the defeat was hard to take, but he added that teams will take points off each other in FL2.

“It was a tough day at the office for us,” said O’Connor. “I thought our lads were good enough, fellas kept fighting and working to the final whistle; there were one or two points at the end that slipped by that we felt would go over, that would possibly have got us a point.

“Nobody is going to run away with this division and that’s for sure; every team is capable of taking points off each other; Clare are definitely capable of taking points off teams that come to Ennis, there is nothing soft there, we knew we had a fight on our hands going there.”
