St Loman’s boss Luke Dempsey has revealed that he was on the verge of quitting team management before Moorefield appointed him five years ago.

The ex-Carlow manager led Moores to back-to-back Kildare SFC titles in 2014 before taking over Loman’s and guiding the Mullingar club to its first ever three-in-a-row of Westmeath SFC crowns.

Now Dempsey’s current side will take on his former charges in the Leinster club SFC final on December 10th, with both teams coming through their respective semi-finals last Sunday, and it’s certainly a novel pairing for the former Westmeath minor and U21 All-Ireland winning manager.

"At the time I was going to Moorefield, I was packing in managing," Dempsey revealed to the Evening Herald.

"But when they rang and asked would I go over … l love Kildare club football, I played there for ten years with Johnstownbridge, and it was a pleasure to get back into Kildare for those two years.

"And it gave me that kick-start again that I needed badly."
