'Bomber' favourite for Kerry vacancy
October 17, 2006
Eoin 'Bomber' Liston has emerged as the early frontrunner to succeed Jack O'Connor as Kerry football manager.
Kerry officials have begun the search for a new manager after O'Connor sensationally stepped down for the position on Monday night, October 16 - just weeks after leading the Kingdom to their 34th All-Ireland success.
Though he has indicated that he is not interested, former county star Liston will still be seen as many people's favourite to fill the vacancy. The legendary full forward guided Kerins O'Rahilly's to a county SFC title a few years ago and is currently a selector with the Irish International Rules squad.
Paidi O Se, who was ousted as manager in 2003, might put himself in the frame, though he's unlikely to figure, while the dream partnership with Mick O'Dwyer that has been regularly touted can't happen now that O'Dwyer has taken charge of Wicklow.
Liam Kearns and former boss Mickey Ned O'Sullivan would also have been seen as potential candidates but for the fact that they are involved with Laois and Limerick respectively. This year's minor manager, John Kennedy, could also come into the reckoning, having previously managed the Clare senior side for three years.
