Godfrey, Michael

August 24, 2006
The Late Michael Godfrey Michael Godfrey, Cregeen in his 90's passed away peacefully. In August's Kerryman he is photographed attending the show and was in the village a few days later. As a sideline to his farming activities, Michael and his late wife, Katie ran a top class turkey poultry farm for many years supplying hotels in Kerry and Cork. He was a fine historian and traditional singer and always enjoyed his game of 31. He was a sub in our Kilgarvan hurling team in 1944 who after four historic games with Kenmare were heavily defeated by Crotta in county final at Tralee. On the following year when we faced Crotta in the semi-final in Tralee and ran them to two points he figured at wing forward. Very big attendances were present at rosary, removal and funeral and showed the respect in which deceased and his family had. He is survived by his son, Austin in Cregeen, daughter Mai in Churchground and daughter Sheila Prendergast in Dublin. Courtesy of the Kerryman 24/8/06
