The Late Brendan O'Carroll The funeral took place of the late Brendan O'Carroll on Monday, September 30, from O'Carrolls Funeral Home in Listowel, where a large crowd attended to pay their respects. Guards of honour were formed by his former football colleagues from Listowel Emmets, Ballydonoghue, The Gleann FC and his beloved Clounmacon. His workmates also paid a special tribute by forming a guard of honour from the top of John B Keane Road to Imperial Stag, where he was working until his untimely death. His funeral mass was concelebrated the following day at Moyvane Church. In a very moving ceremony, many tributes were paid which included Brendan's daughter Danielle saying a prayer of the faithful. During the offertory, his close friend Sean Walsh recalled items of importance to Brendan, which included his son Stephen bringing All-Ireland match ticket stubs to the altar. His eldest daughter, Christine recited a poem in honour of her father. John Walsh his friend and team mate paid an emotional tribute on behalf of the O'Carroll family, recalling Brendan's love for football and most importantly his love for his wife and family. While the remains were being removed his work colleague and friend, John Dore sang "The Old Man." Outside the church local school children formed a guard of honour, and also his work colleagues. Members of Clounmacons three in a row team, which he was so proud to be part of helped shoulder his remains, along with some more of his work mates from Imperial, Stag. After the final prayers, Brendans friend Timmy Joe Sheehan sang "In my Fathers House" at the grave side. The deepest sympathy of the whole community to his wife Betty, his children Christine, April, Stephen, Danielle and David, his mother Margaret, his brothers, sisters and all other relatives. Our loss is Heavens gain! May he rest in peace. The parish was saddened and shocked by his sudden death. Brendan was only 41 years of age, he played football with three different clubs Ballydonoghue under age, Listowel Emmets seniors. He won a Co. League Div 3 medal in 1985 and in goals in the North Kerry championship, final that same year against Tarbert in Moyvane. In the early 1990s, he played with Clounmacon. He was a stylish outfield player but later made a name for himself as a goalkeeper. He won three North Kerry junior championshlp medals, 1997, 1998 and 1999.
