Donaghy and McCarron do battle for top award

Kieran Donaghy and Cathal McCarron are still in contention for the eir Sport Sports Book of The Year award.

eir Sport today announced the five books shortlisted for the prestigious award and these include 'What Do You Think of That?' written by Kieran Donaghy with Kieran Shannon and 'Out of Control' by Cathal McCarron with Christy O'Connor.

The two GAA stars will fight it out with the following three books: Rob Heffernan's'Walking Tall', 'The Battle' by Paul O'Connell and 'Spirit of '58' written by Evan Marshall.

Brian Quinn, Operations Director of eir Sport commented, "We are delighted to announce the shortlist for the eir Sport Sports Book of The Year. It was a difficult task for the judging panel to narrow it down to five contenders this year. This shortlist reflects a diversity of writing styles and subject matters.

"The five shortlisted books and authors will be the subject of five separate specialist programmes broadcast on eir Sport detailing their respective books. The overall winning author will receive a €1,500 cash prize, a specially commissioned trophy and €10,000 worth of TV advertising on eir Sport.

"eir Sport wishes to commend each author and publisher who submitted books for the award with special congratulations to the five authors and publishers on the final shortlist."

John Leonard's 'Dub Sub Confidential' won the inaugural award in 2015. The 2016 winner will be announced at an event in Dublin city centre on Monday, 5th December.
