Keane, Tom

April 04, 2013
A true gentleman, devoted and loving husband

The well-Know and respected Cahrsiveen man Tom Keane of Gurraneragh sadly passed away on Wednesday, February 20th. Tom was a devoted family man and took great pride in his nine children, five girls and four boys.

He was a man of great vision, determination, courage and passion, had a great sense of loyalty to all those with whom he came in contact. Tom had a very strong faith and loved all things Irish.
He will always be remembered as a man full of roguery, never ever short of a quick-witted response, and had an unique style of communication.
Born in November 1937 to Thomas and Nora Keane, he was the third of five children, three boys and two girls. He was reared in Cappaghs, Cahersiveen and later moved to Renard. Following the death of his father at a young age, his mother was a guiding influence on him, always encouraging and guiding him in his adolescent years.
After leaving school Tom learned his trade as a carpenter and in a few short years set up his own contracting business which flourished for the next half-century. He met the lady who would become the love of his life. Nuala Murphy and they were married in March 1964. Within a short time they built the Ringside Rest Hotel which continued to flourish until they sold it in 1996. Tom's family are to this day very grateful to him for the work ethic he passed onto them. He taught them how to respect people and to treat everyone fairly.

Tom's association with the GAA has been well documented. He travelled the length and breadth of the country with Nuala to matches where they made many lifelong friends. Tom will be sadly missed by his wife Nuala, family Ann, Angela, Eithne, Peter, Susan, Maeve, Thomas, Ray and Kevin, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, nine grandsons, sisters Mary Goggin and Clare Barlow, relatives, neighbours and friends.
