Switzer, John Joe (Josie)

November 11, 2012
Tralee Dynamos founder will be sorely missed.

The passing of John Joe (Josie) Switzer (78) occurred on October 22nd, 2012. It was with great sadness that the news reached his many neighbours and friends in O'Rahilly's Villas, Tralee.

Josie Switzer was born in Caherina in February 1934 to the late Christy Switzer and Mary Bridget Divine. He was predeceased by his siblings, two brothers Christy and Alfie, and his four sisters, Catherine, Maureen, Lily and Pat. He attended the Strand Road and later played Kerry minor football in 1951. He was one of the founding members of the Tralee Dynamos Soccer Club. He worked in CIE for thirty years until he retired.

He had a keen interest in building and repairing bicycles and was often seen cycling to and from town. Later in life his niece Mary Hogan, who came to live and care for him until his passing, spent many happy hours in each other's company, talking of times past; he will be sadly missed by her. Josie also enjoyed the company of his lifelong friend, Francis Locke, he will be sadly missed by his extended family, friends and good neighbours in Kerins O'Rahilly's Villas.

Josie is survived by his niece Mary Hogan, lifelong friend Francis Locke, nieces, nephews and extended family, good neighbours and friends. A special thanks to Dr Ruane and Fr Bernard Healy and all those who sympathised with the family and attended the removal and funeral and all who sent good wishes and cards and floral tributes. May Josie find eternal peace in heaven, may he rest in peace.
