McAllen, Andrew

January 25, 2012
It was a devastating shock to the family and friends of Andrew (Andy) McAllen of Dromtacker, Tralee to learn of his sudden death on November 20, 2011.

Andy, as he was known to all, was born January 6, 1947, to Julia and John McAllen, Coad, Castlecove. He was the second youngest of five children Patrick, John, Mary (RIP) and Margaret.
Andy went to England when he was 18 where he met and married Norah where they went onto have three children, John, Teresa and Andrew and later four grandchildren Kristine, Eamon, Sophie Rose and John.

Andy had a lot of sadness in his life as he endured the tragic loss of both his sons, John and Andrew.
Andy was the one person you could call upon if you needed a bit of painting or any other DIY job done as he could turn his hand to almost anything. However, he could not cook ... not even to boil an egg!

His gentle nature and consideration for others were ideal traits for his job in St Patrick's Day Care Centre, he loved helping the elderly and went above and beyond the call of duty for them evening or weekend it didn't matter to Andy, if he could help he would. He enjoyed the craic with all the patrons and his work colleagues in the Day Centre.
Andy was a keen sportsman. In his younger years cycling was his first love and followed the career of Mike (the Ironman) Murphy. Andy was an avid Austin Stacks (the Rockies), Kerry GAA and Manchester United FC supporter and was often seen at Croke Park and Old Trafford.

From April to October Andy and his camper van could be seen from Castlecove to Killybegs and was known the length and breadth of the country.
The family would like to thank sincerely his neighbours and his work colleagues for all their help during this sad time, to Austin Stacks football club for the guard of honour and to Fr. Gerard Finucane and colleagues for the home and church services.
The removal was from his residence in Dromtacker to St John's Church with burial afterwards to Rath cemetary.

Andy will be forever fondly remembered, loved and missed by all. Life will never be the same again without Andy in it. The happy memories he shared with his family and friends, will help us to remember Andy and smile.
May he rest in peace.
