Kingdom's O'Connell signs up with Treaty
January 06, 2012
Kerry native Graham O'Connell has joined the Limerick senior football squad for 2012.
The player's transfer from Austin Stacks in Kerry to Limerick club Monaleen was confirmed on Wednesday and the 24-year-old attacker is scheduled to make his competitive Limerick debut against UCC in the McGrath Cup at Mick Neville Park on Sunday week.
The Limerick city-based Garda - who actually played against the Shannonsiders for IT Tralee in 2007 and '08 - is a free-taking corner forward who should prove a welcome addition to Maurice Horan's squad.
The Limerick manager (who will also welcome back Padriag Browne from Australia in two months' time) says in the Independent: "We'll have a look at him in the McGrath Cup and challenge matches and see how he gets on. I'm looking forward to seeing how he gets on."
Meanwhile, Stephen Lucey has also committed himself to the county footballers this year. And John Galvin is expected back from cruciate ligament injury before the end of the league.
