Kelliher, Timmy

Timmy Joseph Kelliher, London and formerly of Killarney, Co. Kerry, was a wonderful happy individual, who loved life and his family. Timmy was called to his heavenly home on Friday, May 27, after a long illness borne with great courage and positivity.

His determination to live his life to the full were testament to his strength of character and bravery. Aged 61 years of age he was born in New York on October 2, 1949 to Katherine (nee Casey) of Shronaboy, Glenflesk and Tim Kelliher formerly of Leamnaguilla, Ballyhar, Killarney.
Tim together with his parents an siblings moved back to Ireland in 1952. He was reared on the Countess Road, Killarney and spent many happy days growing up with his brother Jerry, sisters Mary, Kathy and Brenda.

Tim was a keen sportsman and played a lot of basketball in St Mary's Parish Hall against other team with the county. He played football with his beloved Dr Crokes and was on the team that won the O'Donoghue Cup in the 1960s. He was a member of the St Brendan's team who won the Frewen Cup in 1964.
Timmy was educated at St Brendan's College, Killarney and having completed his education he attended Rockwell Catering College in Tipperary. He was very proud of the fact that while out from college on work experience at Shannon Airport he had the privilege of serving Irish coffee to the First Lady of the United States of America Jackie Kennedy.

On completion of his education at college he worked for a period of time in Linden House Restaurant in Killarney. Following on from that he went to Europe and worked in both Germany and Switzerland and subsequently the USA before returning to London in the early 1970s.
Timmy spent the majority of his working life at PJ's Bar and Grill in Covent Garden and served the best of them. It was there, that he met his wife a Tralee woman, Margaret Carrick from Boherbee.
Margaret and Timmy married in St John's Church, Tralee on July 8th, 1978 and they were blessed one son Timmy Jnr. Timmy enjoyed life to the full and nothing gave him more pleasure than following his beloved Kerry in GAA and Arsenal in English soccer. Alex Higgins and Andy Murray were also his idols.

Timmy remained positive and good humoured throughout his illness and was greatly appreciative of all the care given to his especially by is wife Margaret who nursed him to the end.
He was a very socialable person and made great friends. These friends, colleagues and family were regular and welcome visitors to his home throughout his illness.
Timmy began his final journey home over the Irish Sea, into Cork Airport, over the County Bounds and into this beloved Killarney on Friday June 3 where Dr Crokes Football Club afforded him a guard of honour on the Countess Road. He was buried in Rath Cemetery, Tralee on Saturday June 4.

Timmy is predeceased by his mother Catherine , father Timothy and sister Brenda Dunne (nee Kelliher).
His passing leaves a deep void by all his family especially his wife Margaret (Carrick) formerly Boherbee, Tralee, his son Timmy, daughter-in-law Lisa, brother Jerry, sisters Mary and Kathy, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephew, nieces, relatives and friends.
"Though his smile is gone forever and his hands we cannot touch, we have so many memories of the one we loved so much.
His memory is out keepsake with which we will never part. God has him in his keeping. we have in our heart. We know that you will walk beside us and when our lives are through we pray our God may take our hand and lead us straight to you".
