Tom O'Connor

Following a short illness, the death took place on Friday, July 2nd of Thomas O'Connor, at his residence, Glenbrook house, Currow Village. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Aged 55, Tom was born in Currow Village to parents Patrick and Bridget O'Connor. He was one of a family of eight children, having three brothers and five sisters.
As a young man, Tom was renowned for his strength and excelled in the local tug of war competitions throughout the country.
His first love in sport was the local in sport was the local Currow GAA club. He was a lifelong supporter and held the position of treasurer for many years. He was a dedicated club man and he gave huge time and effort to it. He also enjoyed hunting and travelled and participated all around the locality.
Thomas began his career as a mechanic after leaving school. He spent twenty six years with the HSE at Kerry General Hospital in Tralee where he looked after the care and maintenance of the ambulance fleet.
He was also very proud of his family's achievements, especially those of his brother, Mick Galwey. He followed and supported his career at local, provincial and international level. He attended as many matches as he could, especially when Munster were involved .
Life's simplest pleasures were Tom's greatest enjoyment. He enjoyed socialising with many friends going to matches playing cards in the local pubs, attending horsefairs and looked forward to the Listowel races where he enjoyed the banter and good fun. Tom's good nature meant that he got on with everyone he met whether young or old. He derived fun from all occasions.
He is survived and will be sadly missed by his loving wife Eileen, children Brid, Patrick and Ita-Ann, brothers Patrick and Mike, sisters Margaret, Hannah, Frances, Mary and Eileen, nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, relatives and a large circle of friends.
Reposed at his residence followed by removal to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Currow. Burial took place in St Michael's Cemetery, Killeentierna, Currow.
