Kerry is set for a very rare double at the Munster Council awards night in the South Court Hotel, Limerick, on Thursday, December 11. Not alone will the legendary Mick O'Dwyer receive the Hall of Fame Award in football, but former Kerry and New York hurler Brendan Hennessy from Ballyduff will receive the hurling equivalent. It is the first time that any Munster county has had two Hall of Fame winners in the same year and one of Kerry's two Munster Council delegates, Teddy O'Sullivan, expressed his delight. "It's just fantastic to win both the hurling and football Hall of Fame Awards in Munster," he said. "I am particularly happy for Brendan Hennessy. For a Kerry man to win the hurling award in Munster is something else altogether." Munster Council secretary Donie Nealon commented: "Kerry have made a great contribution to Munster hurling over the years and never more so than at the moment. "The county well deserves this award and Brendan Hennessy is a most worthy recipient." Hennessy, who lives in New York, cultivated his hurling skills at St. Flannan's College, Ennis, and, after emigrating to New York in the late '50s, he became one of the all-time greats of New York hurling. O'Dwyer, of course, needs no introduction and his amazing achievements included guiding Kerry to eight All-Ireland SFC titles. Tweet
