The Late Patrick (Paddy Bawn) Brosnan

Boherbee and Tralee mourns the loss of Patrick (Paddy Bawn) Brosnan, a staunch son of Yellow Road, formerly of Quill Street.
Patrick of Paddy Bawn- white haired boy- as he was sometimes called, came from proud Boherbee stock and was a lifetime supporter of the John Mitchels Hurling and Football Club.
He wore the green and gold club colours with distinction and was goalie in the championship winning side of 1952.
Aged 81, he was son of Denis and Nora Brosnan (nee Foran). Educated by the Sisters of Mercy at Moyderwell and he went from there to the Tech in Moyderwell. Paddy's introduction to the world of commerce came in the form of job with Barney McSweeney's shop and pub in Castle Street.
This was in conjunction with the delivering milk with his father and brothers Pearse and Tom, both now deceased. One of Paddy's daily deliveries was to the Moloney household, which was more or less, directly across the road from his own homestead.
Paddy was smitten by Bridie Moloney and their union was blessed with children Pat, Thomas, Noreen and Brigid.
For most of his life Paddy was an employee of Lee Strand D airies, who had their main collection and distribution centre in Church Street. Paddy gave over 30 years service to the company and was well known and respected by the farmers who came on a daily basis to deliver milk.
When not working at the depot Paddy was out in the vans and lorries making deliveries to shops the length and breadth of the county. His easy-going nature enabled him to make friends easily and many came to pay their respects at his removal and funeral.
Upon retiring from Lee Strand it took Paddy a while to adjust to a different pace of life. Sugrue's family butchers were life long friends and Paddy was keen to help out whenever he could.
This entailed being at the shop as well as helping out with the animals on the farm. He gleaned great satisfaction from making the hay and other chores.
A lover of all kinds of sports, John Mitchels and Kerry GAA were first and foremost, he discussed the finer points of games with friends over a convivial drink. Time spent at a leisurely pace at the Sportsfield Bar, Eugie Creagh's the Slievemish and Crosty's was always enjoyed.
For a period of time Paddy's health gave cause for concern and he passed away on Tuesday December 15 at Kerry General Hospital.
The removal of his remains took place from McElligotts Funeral Home to St John's Church. Following requiem mass burial took place in New Rath Cemetery.
Paddy is survived by his wife Bridie, children Pat, Thomas,Noreen and Brigid, sisters Noreen and Rita, mother-in-law, grandchildren, relatives and friends.
