Kerry SHC final: Daly's Kilmoyley cruise to victory
October 20, 2008
Clare legend Anthony Daly guided Kilmoyley to an emphatic victory over Causeway in a one-sided Kerry SHC final at Austin Stack Park, Tralee.
Kilmoyley..2-18
Causeway....0-8
After losing last year's decider to Lixnaw, Daly admitted that this year's success was hugely satisfying for the 21-times champions.
He said: "They deserved this victory because they got caught up in the hype last year with everyone telling them they were going to win. But they knuckled down this year and there was no hype. We trained at 7am in the morning in Banna so they deserved it. It's massive to win your own county championship and while I feel sorry for Causeway, we got the breaks."
Kilmoyley's victory was never in doubt after Maurice Murnane's 100-metre free went all the way to the Causeway net. Sean Young and Michael Regan added points to make it 1-4 to 0-2 after 15 minutes with John Mike Dooley converting two frees for Causeway.
The accuracy of Shane Brick from frees helped the winners to a commanding 2-8 to 0-5 lead at the break. The game became completely one-sided in the second half as Kilmoyley pulled away for a 16-point win. Brick added 0-6 to 1-4 first half tally, while Michael Regan, Shaun Young and Tom Murnane were also on the target for the winners who will now progress to a meeting with Blarney of Cork in the Munster intermediate championship.
