Two minutes into stoppage time at the end of the first half of the Waterford v. Wexford clash, Kevin Moran done something he had never done before, score a championship goal.

When Stephen Bennett played in Moran his instinct took over and he pulled on the ball first time given Wexford goalkeeper Mark Fanning no time to set himself for the shot.

The ball nestled in the net and aside from helping to Waterford to a healthy lead at the break, it was Moran's first championship goal after 12 years of trying.

To be fair to the De La Salle clubman, he has played his fair share of inter-county hurling either in defence or midfield and even as a wing forward his role is more of provider than score-getter.

The modest Deise man played down the significance of the score from a personal point and was quick to praise Bennett for his role in the goal.

"I was happy with that and it was nice to get it before half-time," Moran told the Waterford News & Star. Shane turned over a ball from nothing and that was the harder bit than what I did.

"Delighted to get it obviously but I won't take the credit for it more so Shane. Look, I suppose it was a turning point in the game. After a shaky start in the second half, we got back on track and we were six or seven points up for the last 20 minutes before they got the goal."
