Kilkenny supporters are breathing a sigh of relief after X-rays revealed that Michael Fennelly hasn't suffered a broken ankle.
The former Hurler of the Year went over on his ankle during a club game for Ballyhale on Friday evening. The ankle was badly swollen, but there was no break which gives him a fighting chance of being fit for the All-Ireland champions' Leinster SHC quarter-final against Offaly in Tullamore on June 9.
However, his participation in that game is still in doubt, especially if it's discovered he has torn ligaments.
Fellow midfielder Michael Rice is also facing a race against time to be fit for the championship opener after damaging his hamstring during Carrickshock's senior hurling league draw with JJ Delaney's Fenians.
And Eoin Larkin is another injury concern after limping off in the 57th minute of Kilkenny's 1-20 to 1-25 defeat to Limerick in last night's challenge match which marked the official opening of Staker-Wallace GAA club's new facilities in Martinstown.
