Tipp focusing on performance, insists Maher

Tipperary's Brendan Maher gets out in front of Kilkenny's Henry Shefflin during the 2009 All Ireland Hurling Final at Croke Park
Tipperary defender Brendan Maher has said that the team are solely concentrating on their own performance ahead of this Sunday's All-Ireland SHC final against Kilkenny.

Tipp were cruelly denied by two late goals from Henry Shefflin and Martin Comerford in last year's decider at Croke Park and now have the chance to gain revenge and stop the Cats from claiming an unprecedented five-in-a-row of Liam McCarthy Cups, but Maher insists that the team aren't focusing on their opponents.

"We're concentrating on our own performance," Maher told the Irish Examiner.

We believe if we can perform on the day we can beat anyone; whatever they'll bring, we'll try and counteract it, but if we can perform we'll win the game."

Maher revealed that the reception the team received on their home coming after last year's final made the players proud.

He stated: "Directly after the game we were distraught but the reception we got the day afterwards in Thurles just showed how much the people of Tipperary were behind us - proud, to be honest.

"Still no All-Ireland medal in the pocket though and that's what we're looking for this year. We know if we can perform we can win. So we're looking for a performance."
