NHL 1: Decies dominant in second half

March 14, 2010
Waterford moved up a gear after the interval to beat Limerick by 2-20 to 2-10 at Fraher Field.

The Treaty County sprinted out of the blocks but, after turning around level, trailed by six points five minutes after the restart.

Eoin Kelly bagged 1-10 for the winners, while Limerick finished the game with three unanswered points to take a bit of the sting off the scoreboard.

The sides were level 1-7 to 2-4 at the end of a 49-minute long first half. Fourteen minutes of injury time had been added after a nasty injury was sustained by visiting goalkeeper Tadgh Flynn.

Limerick made a flying start and led by seven points at one stage but the Decies came back to level by the short whistle.

Paudi McNamara got the visitors off to a dream start with a goal after just 15 seconds and that major was the only score of the opening seven minutes.

McNamara added the Treaty County's second goal on eleven minutes to leave the 8-1 outsiders ahead by 2-0 to 0-1.

Nicky Quaid got a Limerick point and Eoin Kelly and Richie Foley both grabbed minors for Waterford to leave the scores 2-1 to 0-3 in favour of the visitors.

Unfortunately, Limerick goalkeeper Flynn picked up a serious injury in the 16th minute when he was struck on the head as he tried to come out with the ball. The injury caused a near-15-minute hold-up while the player was treated on the pitch and taken away in an ambulance.

Alan O'Connor had a couple of frees for Limerick and Eoin Kelly got four Waterford points to keep them in touch, 2-4 to 0-6.

Kelly had notched 1-4 for Waterford in the first half and his point just after the restart edged the Decies ahead by the narrowest of margins.

Davy Fitzgerald's team led by 2-16 to 2-7 twenty minutes into the second half. Kevin Moran got the second goal for the winners and Kelly had four points in the first 20 after the break.
