Things just seem to be going from bad to worse for the Offaly County Board at the moment.

Following the sacking of Pat Flanagan and the subsequent way that he found out of his dismissal and the fall out from that, the county board were hit with the news that members of the Offaly GAA Hurling Implementation Committee had resigned due to differences with the county board.

Both these matters were discussed at the recent county board meeting which caused consternation between delegates and the executive, and there were further fiery exchanges between Birr chairman Willie Rigney, secretary Dave Bolger and the top table over major hurling games being played at St Brendan's Park.

Offaly chairman Tommy Byrne and the Birr delegates became embroiled in a war of words resulting in the latter duo walking out of the meeting.

Rigney and Bolger were looking to host the Offaly SHC semi-finals and possibly the final at the Birr venue and stated that they had been told earlier in the year that the matter would be discussed with the relevant parties.

However, Byrne was incensed that it was suggested he had gone back on his work and matters became very heated, before the walk out.
