The Late Tom Mannion The death occurred peacefully of Tom Mannion, Laught, Moylough after a short illness at University Hospital, Galway. Tom (82) was a member of the Mannion known as the Cyclists because of their sporting achievements on the bicycle. Tom, a talented tradesman, worked all his life in the Mannion Construction Firm and was widely known in GAA circles having been delegate to the Galway Football Board for his club Mountbellew-Moylough for many years but also as a Galway Football follower from Derry to Kerry of Cork to Belfast. A kind and gentle man, he was a life long pioneer and a man who loved his game of cards. He was pre-deceased by his wife Ena in 1985. His remains reposed at his residence and later at Franciscan Oratory Chapel in Mountbellew before being removed to St. Patrick's Church, Moylough and the burial took place to Moylough Cemetery after concelebrated Mass of the Resurrection. The concelebrated included Rev. Fr. M. Nohilly C.C. Moylough, Very Rev. Fr. P. O'Connor P.P. Mountbellew, Rev. Fr Pat Donnellon, Moate, Rev. Fr John O'Boyle, Laught, Moylough, Rev Fr. Sean Cunningham, Tuam, Rev. Fr Paddy Costello, Mountbellew, Very Rev Fr. Joe Feeney, P.P. Ballinlough. Fr Nobilly in the homily spoke of his deep faith, dedication to the church and the work he had carried out there and his involvement and work many voluntary organisations in the parish. In a communion reflection Mrs Mary Ryan recited a poem in memory of the Mannion Cyclists while family member participated in the readings, prayers of the faithful and offertory procession and the church choir enhanced a beautiful liturgy. He is survived by his daughter Frances, son-in-law Tony, grand children Caroline, Patrick and Gerard Divilly, brother Paddy (Galway) and sister Peg ( Monaghan), sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends. There was a very large and representative attendance at both days of his funeral and member of the Mountbellew-Moylough GAA Club formed a Guard of Honour at his funeral.
