Hynes, Bobby

The death occurred peacefully of Mr Bobby Hynes, Gurteen, Ballinasloe after a short illness at U.H.G. Hospital, Galway. Bobby (64) was a hardworking and respected farmer and worked for over 40 years as an Agricultural Contractor. He was one of the first owners of the Steyr tractor and side mounted mower in the region and over those years through very dedicated work he and his wife Olive had built up a modern machinery outfit and a business in the silage and slurry works employing three family members and many local people over the years. He had also over those years a dedicated follower of Galway and club hurling. He had served as an umpire for over 20 years with referee Michael Bodkin and other team members Owen Cunniffe, Thomas and William Dilleen at league and championship matches at club and county level. His remains reposed in the family home before being removed to St. Michael's Church, Gurteen. Burial took place to Clonkeenkerrill Cemetery after concelebrated Mass of the Resurrection. The concelebrants included Rev. Fr. Gerry Sweeney C.C. Gurteen, Very Rev. Fr Sean Slattery P.P. Ballymacward, Very Rev. Canon P. Curran P.P. Castlebar, Rev. Fr. Conal Eustace St.Jarlath's Tuam, Rev. Fr. Michael Screene Missionary and Skehana. He is survived by his wife Olive, sons Padraic, Colm and Donal, daughter Carol, in-laws, grandchildren, sisters, Mrs. Mary Sommers (Athenry), Mrs Kate Caston (Dublin), relatives, neighbours and many friends. The Galway Hurling Umpires involved with Galway GAA formed a guard of honour. Thousands of peole filed past his remains as it reposed in his home. Fr. Sweeney in the homily of the mass spoke of his dedication to his family, to his dedication to his family, to his work, his loyalty to his customers and of his attendance at mass and his devotion to his faith. The ceremony was enhanced by the church choir as well as the singing and music of Mary Melody and Ina Curran.
