Keaveney, Gary

August 30, 2007
Gary Keaveney Glanamaddy G.A.A Club lost a faithful club member in a tragic accident, Gary Keaveney, affectionately known as "Gazza". Fear mor, fear laidir, croi mor, cara dilis, Gary was a loyal friend, a happy character, a fanatical sportsman, a gentle giant and a loving son to his mother Margaret and his late father James. He always had an ever ready smile on his face with a capacity to bring a smile to the faces of those who were lucky enough to know him. Gary loved sport. If he was not participating, he was scouring the sports pages for information. Swimming, golf, basketball and game of pool came naturally to him. Gaelic football and soccer was where he achieved most success. With Glenamaddy GAA Club eh won County medals at Under 10, 12, 14, Minor and U21 grades. In his first outing with the U10 team he proudly scored 1 goal and 2 points. At Minor level his prowess as a top-grade goalkeeper emerged, and he went on to develop as a top class goalkeeper at senior level in the county. Gary was Club Player of the Year in 2003. He also won a U-12 hurling County medal during Glenamaddy's brief history as a hurling sub. While attending Glenamaddy Community School he captained the senior team who became Connacht Championship winners, scoring seven points in the final. It was no coincidence that Gary's success at sport came in a team sport, because he was a team player - on and off the playing field. He enjoyed life, was never inclined to panic, and any of his friends would tell you that a brief chat with Gary was guaranteed to cheer you up. Gary, we are bewildered and saddened at your early departure and we seek the strength and courage to help us move forward. To Gary's family and friends and especially to his loving Mum Margaret we extend out sincere and heartfelt sympathy. At dheis De go raibh a anam dilis. The club would like to thank all members and friends who helped organise the guard of honour. Courtesy of Tuam Herald. August 2007
