The late Tom McHugh The death of Tom McHugh, Beaghmore, occurred surrounded by his loving family on Saturday 20th, 2007 at University College Hospital Galway. Tom had been ill for a short time and bore hid illness with great fortitude. We extend our sincere sympathy to his daughters Mary, Philomena, Kitty and Gerladine, son Paddy, sons in law, daughter in law, grandchildren, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. Tom, in his late eighties, was one of the parish's most senior citizens, highly respected by all. He was vice-president of Caherlistrane GAA Club. He will be sadly missed by his family, his neighbours and his many friends. Tom McHugh was a very talented man, and worked most of his life in the building trade; house extensions, bathrooms, out houses, water storage tanks etc. He was a very good neighbour and very happy to be there to help them out if they need came to be. Tom had a great love of music and song and always enjoyed a house party or social evening out with his family and friends. In his young days he played the accordion and sang as the resident musician at all the hollies local and beyond. The death of his late wife Kathleen ten years ago caused him much sadness as did the death of his much loved grandson David Canney, Belclare, eleven year ago. His funeral took place on Monday evening, January 22nd, 2007 from Glynns Funeral Home, Tuam. His removal to Caherlistrane parish church was met by a guard of honour from the GAA club, officials, players and members. His requiem Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Pat O'Brien, PP., Canon Martin Gleeson, Belclare and Fr Stephen Farragher, Tuam. Fr O'Brien in his homily recalled the experience of meeting the late Tom McHugh, how privileged he was and referred to the gospel readings "The just and upright man", Tom was all of this. Following Requiem Mass his remains were taken for burial to Donaghpatrick Cemetery. May he rest in peace. Courtesy of Tuam Herald 1 February 2007
