The late Josie Whelan The death of Joe (Josie) Whelan, Pollnahallia occurred in Cummer Nursing Home on Tuesday January 23rd, 2007. There was a large attendance at his funeral from Ryder's Funeral Home Headford. His requiem Mass took place in Caherlistrane Parish Church. Celebrant Rev. Fr Pat O'Brien PP., organist and vocalist Lorraine Fitzpatrick. Following Mass his remains were removed to Donaghpatrick Cemetery for burial. Joe or Josie as he was affectionately known, was as one would call an all rounder able to turn his gifted hands to any chore: building, plumbing, electrical work or whatever was required at the time. Josie had a great love for the social outing. In the last number of years he moved from his house in Pollnahallina to Tuam. He had a great love of sport and in particular Gaelic Football. He played for Caherlistrane in the sixties, and was part of the 1962 and 1964 North Board Championship winning teams. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and in particular his long time friend Mary. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Patrick, Louis, Teresa, Martina, Ann, Phil and Noreen. To the family we send our sincere sympathy. May he rest in peace. Courtesy of The Tuam Herald 1 February 2007
