Mulroe, Paddy

August 25, 2005
The Late Paddy Mulroe The people of the parish were shocked and saddened on Thursday evening last August 18th when news of the untimely death of Paddy Mulroe reached the parish. Paddy took ill on the previous Saturday and was moved to Beaumount Hospital in Dublin where he underwent surgery. Despite the best efforts of the medical team looking after Paddy he passed away on Thursday evening. Paddy will be deeply missed by his loving family and by the people of Caherlistrane where he lived all his life. Paddy contributed to parish life through his involvement in many clubs and organisations including the GAA Club and the Gun Club and through his valuable work on various Fas Schemes. Paddy was a farmer and his life and in his earlier years worked in Duffy's in Headford. Paddy started on the football field as a member of many Caherlistrane teams. One of the highlights of his sporting career was as a member of the 1976 Caherlistrane team who had a famous victory in the County Junior Final which saw the club progress to Senior status. Paddy was alway enthusiastic about everything he got involved in and he took that enthusiasm to the football field as well where he was thorn in the side of many an opposing full back. Paddy's involvement in GAA affairs did not stop when his playing career came to an end as he involved himself as an active member of the GAA Club and also as a manager of various teams. As a mark of respect to Paddy all GAA activities were suspended for the weekend and the Caherlistrane flag flew at half mast outside the GAA grounds. It was always a pleasure to meet Paddy who was a great conversationalist and his stories and reminiscences as he puffed on his pipe entertained many. Paddy is a son of Mary and the late Mick and a brother of J.J. (Tuam) and Willie (Germany). Paddy married a near neighbour, Eileen Madden from Kilvolan and they had six children, three sons Enda, John and Alvin and three daughters, Eimear, Helen and Aine. His son John died tragically as a result of a traffic accident in 1997 and his wife Eileen died suddenly in 2003. Paddy's remains were removed from Carey's Funeral Home on Saturday evening to the Church of St. Joseph and Mary Immaculate, Caherlistrane and his funeral took place on Sunday after 12.30 Mass to Donaghpatrick Cemetery. Paddy was laid to rest across the fields from his home in his beloved Donaghpatrick beside his son John and wife Eileen who he missed so deeply. We extend our sympathys to his sons Enda and Alvin, his daughters Eimear, Helen and Aine, his mother Mary, his daughter-in-law Betty, son-in-law Eamon, grand-daughter Erika, brothers J.J. and Willie, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, nieces, relatives, neighbours and his many friends. May he rest in peace. Courtesy of the Tuam Herald 25th August 2005
