The Late Brendan Moloney The death took place in Dalkey, Co. Dublin of Brendan Moloney, a native of George's Street, Gort. Son of Nicholas and Rebecca Moloney, who continued the family bakery business until the 1950s, Brendan was one of a family of nine sons and two daughters. He played with Gort hurling teams in the 1930s and 40s, and was a panelist on the 1939 Galway junior team which won the county's first junior All Ireland in that year. For many years, he worked in Coen's of Gort, before joining Jennings Building Co in Dalkey, Co. Dublin with whom he was employed until his retirement. He continued to be a avid supporter of Galway hurling throughout his lifetime, and was especially proud of the 1980s era success of the Gort and Galway senior teams. He was also for many years a member of the Galway Association in Dublin, and also immersed himself in hurling in his adopted county. Brendan also took a very active part in affairs in his adopted parish, serving on various church and other committees. He was a member of the LDF during 'The Emergency' and often entertained his fellow volunteers with his fine tenor singing voice. He also participated in many concerts in the local town hall in Gort. His funeral and interment took place in Dalkey and was attended by many neighbours and parishioners as well as former colleagues from work and sports organisations, including Gort hurling club and the Galway Association. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen and son, Nicholas and is survived by sons, Thomas and Noel, daughters, Mary, Catherine, Nuala, Martina, Angela and Theresa, brother Vincent, Gort, grandchildren, sons-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a wide circle of relatives and friends.
