Kealy, Martin

April 22, 2005
The Late Martin Kealy Martin Kealy of Aran Hill, Ballindereen, who died recently in San Francisco, California was vice-president of Ballindereen GAA Club and a trustee of Ballindereen Hurling Club grounds. During the 1960s, the early years of the comprehensive campaign by local people to establish a state of the art playing pitch and a much needed community centre, Martin Kealy was one of the leading workers. Martin played hurling with the Ballindereen teams of the 1950s and 1960s and was a loss to the team when he emigrated to America, but his contribution to the GAA continued to his new found homeland. He always welcomed at his home in San Francisco his friends from Ballindereen who visited that city. Martin Kealy is survived by his brothers John (Ballindereen) and Murt (New York), his sisters, Mary (New York), Margaret (New York) and Sadie ( Loughrea). Before last Christmas, his wife Mary (nee Diviney of Maree) died. She was the sister of Henry Diviney, Maree, and Paddy Diviney (USA). Martin was buried in San Francisco.
