Connacht club JFC final: Fuerty have that bit extra
November 18, 2013
Fuerty's Niall Kilroy.
Fuerty (Roscommon) 0-18
Headford (Galway) 0-12
Fuerty stopped Headford from becoming the third Galway winners in as many years of the Connacht club JFC title thanks to an extra-time victory at Pearse Stadium on Saturday.
Headford looked set to prevail until Niall Keenan's last-gasp equalising point sent the tie to extra-time, and Fuerty never looked back after that.
Fuerty led by 0-3 to 0-1 early on, but five unanswered points saw Headford lead by 0-6 to 0-4 at the interval. Both sides enjoyed spells of dominance in a second half which saw Fuerty hit six points without reply before Headford reeled off five points of their own in a seven-minute period to nudge ahead.
But after Keenan forced extra-time, Fuerty took control with four points in the first period breaking Headford's resistance.
