Kelly keeps to himself

Galway centre back Keith Kelly has cut off all lines of communication with his Mayo friends ahead of Sunday's Connacht SFC showdown in Salthill.

The primary schoolteacher went to NUIG with Mayo's Jason Doherty and Ger Cafferkey, but revealed to the Connacht Tribune that he has been keeping his distance from them of late.

"Usually coming up to championship, I'd just keep to myself, mind my own house. That's the way I've always played it. If I met lads round Galway, I'd chat, but I'd leave well enough alone now; I'll mind my own house and let them mind theirs. I'll be giving no secrets away and I'm sure they'll do the same," the 2007 All-Ireland minor winning said.

"I played with a few of the Mayo lads in college, I'd know them well, and you want to play against the best. I suppose playing for Galway we feel we're right up there with the best and I'm just excited to mix it with Mayo to see what they have and see if we can step up against one of the so-called stronger teams in Ireland.

"I know Jason Doherty and Ger Cafferkey - I played with them. I've good respect for them. They're both excellent footballers, but I'll still relish the opportunity to go out and have a go at them on Sunday."
