SHC continues
May 03, 2013
It's another big weekend in the Galway SHC with two local derby clashes taking place in Kenny Park, Athenry on Sunday.
Last year's beaten county finalists Loughrea will be hoping to build on last weekend's opening round win over Liam Mellows when they face Craughwell in the first game at 3pm. It will be followed by the meeting of Carnmore and Turloughmore - who are without the injured Fergal Moore - at 4.30pm. The losers of Sunday's games will be plunged into a relegation dogfight.
Meanwhile, All-Ireland club champions St. Thomas' opened their county championship defence with a hard-earned 1-15 to 0-12 victory over south Galway rivals, Ardrahan. Joe Canning scored 2-10 for Portumna in their 2-17 to 0-12 defeat of Kinvara, while 2011 champions Gort overcame the 28th dismissal of midfielder Jason Grealish to beat Athenry by 0-13 to 0-9.
In the other opening round games, Clarinbridge edged out Tommy Larkins by 0-15 to 0-13, Kiltormer held on for a 2-12 to 1-14 win over Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry, Padraig Pearses defeated Moycullen by 2-18 to 1-15, Mullagh were 1-17 to 1-11 winners over Beagh, while Loughrea accounted for Liam Mellows on a 1-13 to 0-9 scoreline.
