Area Mourns Passing

There was widespread sadness within the community as the news spread of the passing of Danny Langan. Danny had been part and parcel of the local community since he returned from London almost twenty years earlier.

A member of the Langan family in Ballinvoher, he left his native Turloughmore at a young age to work in the construction industry. However he never forgot his roots and always kept a keen interest in what was happening around and in particular the interests of Turloughmore hurlers.

Many members of the Langan family were actively involved in Turloughmore hurling and his late brother Paddy was a member of the wonder team that captured six county titles in succession in the sixties. Danny always kept his interest in hurling and won several competitions when playing for Sean Treacy's club in London and also served as club treasurer for many years.

Danny returned to Ireland with his sister Ann and young daughter Laura, shortly after she had lost her husband and they set up base beside each other in Rooaunmore. Illness restricted Danny's life in recent years, but he never let it stop him from doing what he wanted from life. His passing leaves a void in the community, but especially for his sister Ann and his family.

The remains of Danny Langan were removed from Lackagh Mortuary Chapel to the Church of Our Lady of Knock, Lackagh.

Following concelebrated Requiem Mass in which chief celebrant Fr Des Walsh, PP Lackagh, was joined by Fr John Dunleavy, SMA, Fr Gussie O'Brien, MSC, Fr Paddy Mullins, PP Corofin and Fr Willie Cummins, PP Mervue, burial took place in Lackagh cemetery.

Danny is survived by his sister Ann and her daughter Laura whom he lived with, as sisters Bridie and Nuala, brothers Christy, Michael John, Brendan and Francis, in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
