St. Brigid's crowned a memorable year for Roscommon GAA when they regained the AIB Connacht club football title after a four-year lapse with a dramatic extra-time victory over Killererin at Tuam Stadium.

The Kiltoom men looked down and out when they trailed by three points at the end of normal time, but in the very last attack, Frankie Dolan's long delivery was flicked to the net by Cathal McHugh for the equalising goal.

That score, and the timing of it, had a demoralising affect on the Galway champions whose hopes faded after Senan Kilbride fisted home a controversial second goal four minutes into the first period of extra-time. Killererin argued that the big full forward was in the square, but the goal stood.

St. Brigid's started brightly, racing into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead inside the first 12 minutes. But a goal from corner forward Gerard Butler in the 16th minute helped the locals to a 1-3 to 0-5 lead at the break.

Killererin stretched their advantage to three points midway through the second half before St. Brigid's pulled back a brace of points. However, scores from Nicky and Padraic Joyce restored the Galway's three-point lead and they maintained that advantage until McHugh delivered his dramatic equaliser in the final second.

The Roscommon champions never looked back after Kilbride's major, outscoring their opponents by 1-2 to 0-2 in the first period of extra-time and by 0-4 to 0-0 in the second period. Tweet
